    Civil Engineering Manager - Beaconsfield

At Shanly Homes, we do not just build houses; we create distinctive, high-specification homes designed for modern living.

As a privately owned, multi award-winning regional housebuilder, we take pride in delivering thoughtfully designed developments in some of the South East’s most sought-after locations.

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineering Manager to join our Technical team and become our principal in-house civil engineering specialist.

This new position will strengthen our in-house engineering expertise and provide a broad scope across our developments, from land acquisition and planning through to construction and completion. You will play a key role in assessing new land opportunities, identifying and managing technical risks, influencing design solutions and ensuring developments are supported by practical, cost-effective and deliverable engineering solutions.

This role will suit someone who is a residential civil engineering specialist, with strong experience across new homes and a detailed technical understanding of drainage, highways, utilities, levels, earthworks and ground conditions, combined with a practical, commercially minded approach to finding effective engineering solutions.

    Scope of the role

    What you will be doing:

As Civil Engineering Manager, you will provide specialist civil engineering advice across the development lifecycle. Key areas of focus will include:

    • Land acquisition: provide civil engineering input into potential land acquisitions, reviewing topography, existing infrastructure, utilities, flood risk, drainage, ground conditions and highways access
    • Technical risk: support land bids through technical risk assessments, engineering advice and the preparation of relevant budgets
    • Planning: work closely with the Land and Planning teams to develop planning strategies, influence site layouts and support planning applications, drainage capacity checks and negotiations relating to highways, drainage and infrastructure
    • Engineering design: oversee the preparation of highway designs, drainage strategies, levels strategies, earthworks assessments, utility layouts and external works designs
    • Consultant management: identify where external engineering expertise is required, agreeing appropriate scopes, fees and timescales and ensuring consultants deliver practical and commercially viable solutions
    • Value engineering: identify opportunities to improve engineering solutions and reduce costs without compromising quality or deliverability
    • Infrastructure and adoption: drive the production of design information required for Sectional Agreements and manage the engineering elements of the adoption process
    • Construction support: work closely with the Construction teams to resolve engineering and infrastructure issues, review design changes and support the delivery of infrastructure and utilities
    • Site inspections: undertake site inspections to review and sign off civil engineering and infrastructure works
    • Verification: oversee the collation and production of engineering verification reports
    • Continuous improvement: share expertise and promote best practice, helping to strengthen civil engineering capability across the Technical team

    About you

    • Confident working collaboratively with Land, Planning, Technical, Commercial and Construction teams
    • A proactive approach to identifying technical risks and finding effective solutions
    • An interest in industry developments, emerging technologies, legislation and best practice within residential development and infrastructure design
